Chinese 20 Round Type 63 AK-47 Magazines, All 12 Varieties

It turns out there are 12 types of Chinese 20 round AK-47 Magazines. Some of them are called Type 63 Magazines, with Bolt Hold Open Followers, but all fit in an AK. In many forums and discussions, I have heard there are 6-7 varieties, but there are 12 types.  Please see below.

Here is a picture of each of  10  varieties, including 4 of 5 of the different star mag variations.

The 11th is below,  not previously captured on film.
Yes, there are 11 varieties of T-63 20 round mags.
This final mag is similar to the Stamped mag above,  but with just 1 bar,
as the above mag is a 2 Bar Mag.

The 12th and final Magazine is a 2 x 1 Bar, that Does not have a Bolt Hold Open Feature.
They are exactly the same as the 2x1 with BHW, except not BHO.  It is identical to the 2nd mag from right in the last photo.   BHO and non BHO 2x1.

Please look over the visual evidence below. Here are 8.

Here are 8 of the Chinese 20 round magazines. The one at the top left (wrapped) is the same as the magazine at the top right corner, so I will leave out that one from the list below.

1) 20 Round stamped "Star" Mag. (Top Row, 2nd from left)
2) 20 Round stamped "cut out" "Star" Mag.
3) 20 Round Traditional "Star" Magazine.
4) 20 Round 3 rib Chinese flat back AK Magazine.

5) 20 Round ALL Stamped Mag. (Bottom Row from Left)
6) 20 Round Type 63 Single Bar Mag, (Also Imported with the Type 86S Bullpup)
7) 20 Round Type 63 Parallel Double Bar Mag.
8) 20 Round Black Plastic / Phonelic / Bakelite Type 63 Mag.

#9)  20 Round round two bar slant mag in the picture below on the left.
(Refer to Magazine #7 above, the 20 Round Type 63 Double Bar Mag.)
         The Mag on Right Side.
The difference may be difficult to notice, but the Magazine on the left has a Double Bar which is slightly canted. (Top Bar is Angled)  And the Magazine on the right, Like #7 above, has two PARALLEL Bars.    Slight difference, but a manufacturer difference none the less.

Finally  #10)
This picture came from a collector. His handle is Jopokk. This is the 10th and most intriguing of all of the Chinese 20 rounders. Very similar to the photo above,  but these "STAR" magazines are the most rare of all of the Chinese 20 type 63 round mags. Look closely,  the double rib patter at the bottom is canted / slanted on the mag on the left,  and parallel on the mag on the right. This is a very slight difference,  but a unique variation that must be noted.  Thanks  Jopokk!

So, there are 11 Types of Chinese AK-47 / Type 63 Magazines available.
Here are some additional reference picks below.

These 20 Round "Star" Magazines are very scarce.
I have seen some go for less that $150.00, while some collectors try to pawn them for over $300.00.

7 of the Chinese 20 Round Mags.
The top 2 mags are Type 86S Bullpup Mags.

Here are 5 of the 20 Round Mags together.
This is a Type 63 Magazine pouch, that holds 8x 20 round magazines.
It is made of Pleather, and green canvas.

Here is a picture of my 86S Bullpup, with 5x Original 20 Round Single Bar Mags, and 4x Black Phonelic 20 Round Type 63 Magazines. There is a Type 63 Magazine Pouch that holds 5x Mags.

 From Jopokk!  Thanks.

This is my Type 63 single bar mag vest with mags.

This is my Type 63 Mag vest with Black Phonelic Mags.

Here are two pictures of my different 20 round Chinese T-63 Mags. There are 7 of the ten possible mags pictured below. I am missing three versions of the elusive Star Mags.  Please comment below if you would be willing to part with a traditional Star mag to help complete my collection.
Thank you very much.

How do you like this chest rig?     Seven different T-63 mags in one rig.

The next 3 pictures are from the Cheeks Collection on the
AK-Files.  He has 9 of the ten possible 20 round mags in his collection at this time. He seeks one more mag to create a 10 for 10 collection. That may never have been done at one time before.  Please leave a message below if you have the final STAR mag with the cut back follower, and would be willing sell it for him. I will get right back to you about it.     Thank you.

Here are 3 of the 20 round Star Mags next to each other.
1)The stamped star mag, 2) two parallel bar Star mag, and 3) the traditional Star mag with slant bars.   Look closely.      The two mags on the right are different.

Two Chinese women with Type 63 rifles,  and 20 round Type 63 mags. (They will fit and Chinese AK).  Look closely at the one on the right. It is a star mag!

  1. I have four 20 round bakelite mags that are unmarked.
They are in really good condition but not pristine.
Any idea of what they are worth?
